Ever wondered why the sky is blue instead of, say, green or purple?
Here's the science behind it
Sunlight is actually white and made up of all the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and indigo). When sunlight enters Earth's atmosphere, it collides with tiny gas molecules (mostly nitrogen and oxygen).  These molecules scatter the shorter blue wavelengths of light much more than the wavelength of the other colors. This scattered blue light travels in all directions, reaching our eyes from all over the sky. That's why we see a blue sky!

Imagine throwing a handful of different colored marbles at a net. The smaller, lighter marbles (blue light) will bounce off the net more easily and scatter everywhere, while the larger, heavier ones (red light) will mostly pass through.
