What is CRISPR-Cas9?

CRISPR-Cas9 is a technology that allows editing DNA in cells with high levels of precision.  It was first published in August 2012.1  This technology was developed by Dr. Jennifer Doudna (biochemist) and Dr.  Emmanuelle Charpentier (microbiologist) and their research teams.  Both won the 2020 Nobel prize in chemistry for the development of this technology.


This technology is expected to revolutionize health, agriculture, and many other areas of our society.
